2 Ways to Delete Apps from iPhone

2 Ways to Delete Apps from iPhone - Recently, I found myself needing to delete a few apps from my iPhone to free up storage space and streamline my home screen.

While it seems like a simple task, I discovered that there are actually a couple of ways to go about it, each with its own advantages.

I’d like to share my personal experience using two methods that worked smoothly for me.

Deleting Apps from the Home Screen

The first method, and the one I tend to use most often, is by deleting apps directly from the home screen.

This is probably the most intuitive way to remove apps and has been around for as long as I can remember using iPhones. Here’s how I went about it:

2 Ways to Delete Apps from iPhone

I simply pressed and held the icon of the app I no longer wanted. Almost immediately, a small menu popped up, and one of the options was Remove App.

With just one tap, I was on my way to getting rid of the app. It was quick, efficient, and felt natural, especially since I’ve used this method so many times before.

What’s nice about this method is that there’s an alternative approach if you want to remove multiple apps at once.

By long-pressing on any app icon, I entered what’s called "edit mode," where all the apps on my screen started to wiggle, and a small minus sign (-) appeared on each app.

I then tapped the minus sign on any app I wanted to delete and followed up by tapping Delete App. It was especially helpful when I had several apps I wanted to clear out in one go.

After a few taps, my home screen was noticeably tidier.

Deleting Apps via the App Store

The second method I explored was deleting apps through the App Store, something I wasn’t as familiar with until recently.

This option was introduced with iOS 13 (and iPadOS 13), and although I hadn’t used it much before, it ended up being a pretty convenient option under the right circumstances.

To do this, I opened the App Store and tapped on my profile icon in the upper-right corner. After scrolling down a bit, I found the section showing apps that had pending updates.

I swiped right on one of the apps listed there and was pleasantly surprised to find a Delete button. With just one swipe and a tap, the app was gone.

However, this method does come with a small limitation—it only works for apps that are visible in the update list on the App Store.

If the app you want to delete isn’t listed in that section, you won’t be able to remove it this way. That being said, I found this method useful when I happened to be checking for updates and noticed an app I didn’t need anymore.

Both of these methods are straightforward, and each has its own strengths depending on what you’re trying to achieve.

If you’re like me and just want to quickly remove a few apps from your home screen, the first method is probably your go-to.

However, if you happen to be in the App Store already and notice some apps you no longer need, the second method provides a convenient alternative.

I also found that these methods work not only on iPhones but also on iPads running iPadOS 13 or later, making it easy to declutter across devices.

Whether you're clearing space, organizing your screen, or just getting rid of apps you don't use anymore, these two methods will definitely get the job done!
