How to prevent downloaded files from opening by themselves in Safari MacBook
When you download a file using Safari for Mac, it will automatically open after the download is complete.
When I download an image or PDF, a preview starts without permission.
It is good if the application that opens automatically is an application that I want to use, but I want to open the downloaded file in another application and often want to open it in my own time.
So in this article, I introduce the setting that video, an image, PDF, a sound file, a compressed file, etc. do not open automatically after the download of a file finishes in Safari for Mac.

However, the settings are very simple.
- Open Safari
- Click Safari in the top left-hand corner of the screen
- Click Settings or Preferences
- Click on General in the window that opens
- At the bottom of the window, uncheck Open 'secure' files after downloading.
Personally, I would like compressed files such as zip files to open on their own, so it would be nice to be able to set 'files that open automatically' and 'files that do not open automatically', but at the moment (as of March 2023) such settings do not seem to be possible.
