How to Open Code Scanner on iPhone
Since iOS 11, iPhone has a feature to detect and scan QR Codes natively using the built-in Camera.
However, this feature turns out to have its own application called Code Scanner, which can be opened through the Control Center or Spotlight Search.
In iOS 15, iPhone can also detect other types of codes — not limited to JUST QR Codes. But to use it, you need to open the Code Scanner app, rather than through the built-in Camera app.

Code Scanner vs Camera
- In iOS 15, Code Scanner can detect barcode codes and serial numbers. So it's not limited to just QR Codes.
- There is a Flashlight option on the Code Scanner that can be used when in a dark environment. This cannot be done in the built-in Camera app.
- Code Scanner can capture code faster than the built-in Camera app.
