Are You Caught in the “Guru Trap” of Internet Marketing?
What is the guru trap? It is the “get rich quick mentality that we develop from reading overhyped sales letters. The subconscious mind is an incredibly powerful thing. If you believe that you should easily be able to make $10,000, $15,000, 20,000 per month then your mind will prevent you from doing hard work for small realistic gains.
You are setting yourself up for frustration and failure. You buy into a program and you think you are suppose to make a thousand or two a week from it within a couple weeks and when that doesn’t happen you become frustrated. Now you are in a very vulnerable position. You are frustrated; you’re thinking it’s too hard when it was suppose to be easy. You are building on your self doubt. All of which is pushing you deeper and deeper into the “guru trap”
Forget the “Get Rich Quick” mentality because that is the trap. It’s a trap that you can be caught up in for years until you either give up your dreams or you realize that you are in the trap. And it’s not just in the Internet marketing community. Now that I look back I realize this was happing in the weight loss community also.
People were always expecting to lose 30 pounds in 30 days or 10 pounds in two days. They want it easy and they want it fast and they are conditioned by advertising to believe that it will happen that way. These are totally unrealistic goals so when it doesn’t happen, what do these people do? They look for the next diet or the next pill. Sound familiar?
How do you break free from the guru trap? Stop buying into the hype of “Get Rich Quick” sales letters. If a sales letter leads you to believe you will make $20,000, $10,000 or even $5,000 in your first month don’t believe it. I finally realized that the way to success is by setting small achievable goals for the short term and larger goals for the long term.
Learn the basics of writing, salesmanship, and marketing. I know that this is very difficult to do because there are sales letters promising fast and easy riches. I was caught in the guru trap for years before I came to my senses and finally started making money online. Please, don’t spend years looking for the magic “get rich quick” pill. Instead, spend your time building a long term, profitable business. The way to do it is to have a mindset with realistic expectations and start at the beginning by learning the basics.
